Furfuran is an organic compound with molecular formula of C7H14N4O3, molecular weight of 202.2111 and melting point of 107.5 º C. Mainly used as insecticide.
Toxicological properties:
Toxicity: Furfuran is very safe for mammals. Its acute oral LD50 is 2450mg/kg for male rats and 2275mg/kg for female rats; 2840mg/kg for male mice and 2000mg/kg for female mice. For rats with acute percutaneous LD50>2000mg/kg (female and male). No teratogenicity, carcinogenicity and mutagenicity. Furfuran is also very safe for aquatic organisms. The fish toxicity test showed that furfuran was more than 1000mg/L for carp (48 h) and more than 1000mg/L for water fleas. Similarly, the toxicity of furfuran to birds is also very low, with acute oral LD50>1000mg/kg for quails. According to the bee test, the toxicity of furfuran to bees is medium to high risk, and it is forbidden to use it during the pollination and flowering period of plants.
